Complexity and beauty are achieved through the manipulation of humble materials in the work of Troy Dugas. His work is constructed from thousands of pieces of cut or shredded product labels, vintage ledgers, illustrated book pages, and painted papers to produce collages that appear woven. Using repetition and intuition guided by original designs, Dugas explores the infinite possibilities of radial form, symmetry, and pattern. From a small South Louisiana town he reflects on the resourcefulness and inventiveness of a grandmother who made quilts from recycled clothing, miraculous chalices from bubble gum wrappers, and an assortment of crafts from an array of materials filling every inch of a small shotgun house. Dugas received his MFA from Pratt Institute in 1997 and has received awards from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, the Angel Orensanz Foundation, and the Pollock - Krasner Foundation.
